Standing out at a Job Fair can make a difference in your job hunting. Job Fairs are starting to pick up, and a major job search company is running some nice ones, called Targeted Job Fairs. At a Bay Area Career Faire in early 2010, 10 companies as showing up, and a major job search company has 82 job fairs scheduled for 2010 across the States.
How do you stand out at a Career Fair? The competition can be noteworthy, but you can help yourself surpass from the bunch with early planning. At AA-Careers, we have a simple 6-step process to prepare. Planning to go? Here’s how to prepare:
First, research the companies that are going and pick your objectives. Use the web to research the organizations that are there before you even decide to go. Go to their sites and see if they have their openings posted. Pick a reasonable number to go after, and get ready to spend about an hour researching each one. It’s hard to do more than 7 in a day, and three or four is a much more reasonable target. For each hiring company, you want to know: executive names, recent news, and key product lines. Try to see if you know anyone at the target companies. You’ll end up with a page or two of research for each company/job.
Second, if there are job postings on the web, read them to see what the hiring department is looking for. Create a mapping of your achievements and skills to the demands of the job. Make the terminology match. If the hiring organization calls customers "clients", your resume should do the same thing. The achievements should be written in the style of the hiring company.
Third, create a ‘mini sales pitch’ for each likely company/position combination. Write down a 90 second ‘thumbnail’ that you can repeat out loud showing why you are a fantastic candidate for that position. You’ll use this in your resume and when you meet the company at the job stall.
Fourth, modify your resume for each job type. The objective on your resume should exactly match the position you’re going after. The executive summary should be a written form of your “mini sales pitch” for the job. Then choose the accomplishments and skills that most clearly match the job description. Especially at a Job Faire, the purpose of your resume is a sales tool for you – to get you on-site job interviews. It should be a no-brainer to see that you’re a fit based on your resume.
Fifth, practice your ‘mini-sales-pitch’. Collect your research and the resume for each spot - bring a couple of copies for each – and put each in a clearly tagged folder. Keep them in a lightweight briefcase or folio.
Finally, dress and prepare as if you’re doing on-site interviews. Dress well and be fittingly groomed. Avoid strong cologne or perfume…use any eau de cologne or fragrance sparingly, if at all.
Remember to smile, and good hunting!

Here’s how I did it. You can do it too!
<> Goal: Increase Targeted Traffic <> The Website: Learn
Internet Marketing <http://www.learninternetmarketing.com> <>
Target Market: Internet Marketing Beginners <> Original Traffic:
0 (5/99) <> Traffic/Day Before ‘Pull’ Approach: 450 <> Peak
Traffic: 2,079 (2/6/00) <> Average Traffic/Day: 1,200
In the beginning, I followed all the ‘accepted’ ways of
promoting my Website. My own E-zine, a membership only Website
(with Opt-In EMail collection), my own banner network,
classifieds, exchanges, the-yada-yada-what-have-you-it’s-the-
last-trick-in-the-book…really! Well, I think you get the idea.
Traffic climbed steadily from 0 to about 450 visitors a day.
Still, traffic increase was too slow.
I decided to change from the ‘push’ to the ‘pull’ model.
I tried to find an answer to the Question: What Are People
SEARCHING FOR? To find out, I subscribed to two keyword and
search terms report services. They furnish you with a report on
the most used keywords and search terms. Both are FREE.
WordsSpot 200 <http://www.wordspot.com/>
and
Weekly top 500 Wordtracker keyword report
<http://www.wordtracker.com/>
What came up is that one of The Most Used Keywords is: FREE.
I tracked other trends and decided on the following:
Give my Target Market what they are SEARCHING FOR in Free
Information form! However, you must have in mind that all Free
information is NOT Valuable, and can do you more HARM than GOOD!
Stay with me, and later on I’ll give you the KEY to Giving Away
FREE Information EFFECTIVELY.
Meanwhile…
I went ahead and produced UNIQUE Free Content that would
interest those SEARCHING for ways to:
1. Learn Basic Internet Marketing FREE. 2. REALLY Make Money
Online, and do it basically FREE!
To accomplish this, I created Free Online Courses and E-Books
(which I produce with E-ditor Pro. You CAN’T Miss with this
one!) <http://www.e-ditorial.com/ebook.cgi?id=bestedit>
Some examples:
1. A Free Internet Marketing Course for Beginners (You must
become a member first, and even membership is FREE)
2. Hot Free E-Book Downloads like: EBay Exposed!…How To Sell
On EBay.
3. Five FREE Gifts just for visiting the Website.
4. Your Choice Of A Free Online Course or E-Book: “How to
Succeed In A Paid To Surf Program. The Secrets Revealed!” I call
it: The Most Valuable FREEbie you’ll EVER Get! It’s an easy to
use, REAL HELP resource for the little Guy & Gal who wants to
make money online.
This, and my invention: The Current Link(tm) System, are
responsible for creating the Biggest Surge In Daily Traffic to
my Website EVER!
5. And the latest FREE addition is: “The Idiot-Proof Way To Make
Money Online” It’s available: Online, downloadable E-Book, or
TXT file. One of the sections covers how to save up to $120/year
on your AOL account.
I also maintain Strategic Link Exchanges with TOP Freebie Sites,
submit original articles (like this one) to many internet
marketing EZines, and publish related articles submitted by
other successful Webmasters.
The Results?
Traffic SHOT up to an average of 1200+ visitors a day! FREE
Memberships To The Learn Internet Marketing Website and Current
Link(tm) System are way up!
All achieved by GIVING People what they are SEARCHING FOR!
People have liked this approach and, as a bonus to me, they let
their friends know about it. If this sounds like ‘viral
marketing’ it’s because it is! The results speak for themselves!
Now, let, talk about you! Here’s my personal advice if want to
increase MEANINGFUL, Targeted Traffic to your site:
1. Look for that special ’something’ that sets your product or
Website ‘apart from the pack’.
2. You can start an EZINE! and announce it. Check out all the
tips available on my Website and back issues of my EZine.
Harmony Major’s Article about EZines on Issue 18 Is Great. It’s
all FREE! 3. Create your own BUZZ! You could give incentives or
reward your prospects, SATISFIED customers or users for
promoting your service. Have you ever stopped to watch how
people react to some common promotional events?
Let me give you an example.
Just watch when someone is trying to HAND OUT promotional flyers
to every passerby. You’ll notice that MOST people are annoyed by
this ‘in your face’ approach. The flyer WILL be THROWN OUT by
the vast majority without even bothering to LOOK at it! (That’s
what happens to most traditional advertising!)
Compare that with what happens when someone is giving out FREE
samples(discount coupons, etc.) of a product. The main reaction
you notice is: CURIOSITY! ‘What are they GIVING AWAY?’ ‘I want
SOME!’
Never mind if you can use it or not. The first reaction is: I
WANT SOME, or KNOW MORE about it! You have been ATTRACTED to the
‘message’. And the same happens to a lot of people. You may even
ASK someone who just GOT something to TELL you about it! And the
person(even if it’s a stranger) DOES! If you happen to like it,
you GO TO GET YOURS TOO!
Why this happens?
In the flyer example, the approach doesn’t appeal to your
‘What’s In It FOR ME?’ factor. The message CHASES YOU! Somebody
is ‘TRYING to SELL you something’.
The Second scenario hits the person right where it counts. It
feeds the: ‘I Can Get Something FREE NOW!’ factor.
The tables have turned: Now, You CHASE the Message! YOU want to
see what the whole deal is! You become a voluntary recipient.
YOU convinced yourself!
I hope you can use this tip to great results!
4. Let people get to KNOW and RECOMMEND YOU! Visit Active Web
Message Boards related to your Websites’ theme, and see what
people are LOOKING FOR and the Problems they have. Give RELEVANT
answers to their Questions.
This is more effective (and cheaper)than advertising all over
the place. An honest referral by a satisfied customer or user is
your BEST ALLY!
Now…The JUICY Part!
5. Create a related Freebie(not a Blatant Ads Billboard) that
will give your Target Market VALUABLE information like:
“Things You Should Know BEFORE …”
“How To…”
‘Mistakes You Must Avoid …”
“The Secrets to…”
GIVE IT AWAY with NO Strings attached, and encourage people to
pass it along to their friends.
Instead of pushing, let people be ‘pulled’ to your site.
The KEY to make this approach work EFFECTIVELY is: The
information you GIVE away, MUST have its HIGHEST VALUE when used
in COMBINATION with one of your other products, or services.
This gives your visitors a STRONG REASON (that appeals to their
SELF-INTEREST) to come back and use your other products or
services. Both sides must derive a benefit from this exchange.
That’s the name of the game!

Identifying Link Partners
The first thing is to identify websites that would make suitable
link partners. These are sites that complement your own, and
therefore have a similar visitor profile to the type you are
looking for. For instance a website selling health food might
link up with a website about physical fitness. Be creative about
your choices; set up a spread sheet to keep track of your
approaches.
Visit the top 10 or 20 sites ranked in Google and Yahoo! for
your keywords and do some research on their link partners. You
will find not only do they have several link partners, but
partners that are quality sites for their content, linking
strategy, aesthetic appeal and so on. These are the sites you
should target for a link exchange request. Note: The major
search engines are reducing the number of links they’ll show for
each site, to cut down on search engine spamming. You may thus
find a specialized tool is necessary. A good one for his purpose
would be SEO Elite which is a complete reciprocal links exchange
management tool.
Assess the sites you short-list for their relevance and
complementarities to your own. Ensure that they are quality
sites (if they are link partners of the top ten sites in your
niche they generally will be, but take nothing for granted).
Assess them for:
Linking Website - this is the specific website linking to the
rival websites in your niche that you are benchmarking. In order
to find all of the websites that link to them go to Google and
enter this search criteria: link:www.targetedwebsite.com. Once
you do this Google will return a list of websites that link to
www.targetedwebsite.com. You will get a larger list by going to
Yahoo! and entering link:http://targetedwebsite.com. Note: that
for Yahoo you must include http://
Anchor Text used - is the actual text used within the link,
linking to the specified website. For example, the anchor text
in the following link would be “health food”. Health food
website.
Page Rank - is the actual Google Page Rank of the webpage
linking to www.targetedwebsite.com. In order to see the Google
Page Rank,
you’ll need to download and install the Google Toolbar for free
from: http://toolbar.google.com
Link Popularity - is the number of links that are pointing to
each of the webpages pointing to www.targetedwebsite.com. The
more the merrier. Go to a website like www.linkpopularity.com to
find each link partners link popularity quickly and
comprehensively.
Page Title - is the title of the page that is linking to
targetedwebsite.com. Does it contain the main keyword(s) for
your niche? If so, you should note the url (web address) of
those pages. You’ll want to approach those websites and try to
get them to link to your website.
* Getting links from webpages that contain your main keyword in
the page title is extremely powerful and is something many
people often overlook.
Number of Outbound Links - is the number of links located on the
webpage linking to www.targetedwebsite.com. The fewer links
there are located on the page, the more a link from them would
increase your ranking.
Once we’ve collected all of the information, we now can see
targetedwebsite.com’s linking strategy. We’ll need to calculate
the percentage of websites that contain the main
keywords/phrases in the page title, and the percentage of
websites that contain the main keywords in the actual anchor
text linking to www.targetedwebsite.com.
You’ll have to do this for the top 10-20 websites in your
keyword niche in order to properly establish the most beneficial
websites to seek link exchanges with.
The most beneficial sites will be those that:
a) Allow you to specify the anchor text that will be used in
their link to your website.
b) Websites with a PR OF 4 or more - don’t get too hung up on
page rank though.
c) Websites that will preferably carry your link in a relevant
page. Failing that, a website that has a well-organized links
page with a visible and hopefully prominent link in the
navigation bar, so that visitors can find it easily.
d) Should the website use a special links page, then ensure that
it carries no more than 30 links, otherwise the PR benefit from
that links page will be so diluted as make it worthless. Also,
there’ll be too many links competing with yours to get any
significant traffic boost.
Making Your Link Request
Now that you have established the websites you want to link
with, you need go out and actually ask them. How you do this
will determine whether your linking campaign will be effective
or not; it would be a great pity to do all the work above only
to mess it up with a shoddy links exchange request.
Firstly, websites that are worth linking to receive hundreds of
link requests. In order to get your request any attention,
prepare well so that it stands out from the crowd. You want to
show the webmaster that you have taken the time to peruse his
website and that your links exchange request is well considered.
You need to convince him/her that your website would make a good
fit with their own, that it is interesting, and his/her own
visitors would find it useful and beneficial. You also want to
make it as easy as possible for them to link up with your site.
When you write the links exchange request letter, personalize it
by using the webmaster’s first name if you can find it on
his/her site, make sure you have specified the website’s name,
and note and comply with any instructions the website may have
for exchanging links e.g. a web-based form, a code to cut and
paste on to your site and so on. Failing to do so would not just
be irritating; it shows that you have not really browsed the
site.
Be creative and bold with your email subject header. Being timid
and using a generic subject header like “Link Request” will
probably see your email deleted unread. Explicitly state which
page you’d like your link carried on and why. Oftentimes,
interestingly, you’ll get your links request approved without a
reciprocal link exchange. Some webmasters will consider either
that it may not make sense for them to have their link on your
site, or that your site is a valuable enough addition to their
site without a link in return. Most times though, a reciprocal
exchange will result.
Do not balk at approaching your competitors. Since no two
business entities are identical, it is possible for competing
websites to carry each others links and still benefit from the
total traffic carried by all. Imagine sites that sell unique and
therefore hard to find gift items. While obvious competitors, if
a surfer fails to find what they’re looking for on one site,
they may find it on the other, and vice-versa.
Page Rank
A word about Page Rank. PR is a measure of a website’s
significance derived and used by certain search engines chiefly
Google. While a positive indicator, you should not get too hung
up on it when identifying link partners.PR is gained and lost
often (every 3 months or so) so current PR is no indicator of
future trends. Further, PR is largely an indicator of link
popularity, is obscure in its derivation, and does not tell you
how suitable a website is as a link partner. Use it as an
indicative measure rather than a deciding factor.
Google PR increases as your link popularity does. Building links
with quality websites many of which will have low PR initially,
but websites that have the type of traffic your site needs will
invariably lead to a higher PR evetually.
Enjoy your Link Building.

The movie, “Field of Dreams”, starring Kevin Costner and James
Earl Jones, made this line famous: “If you build it, they will
come.”
That idea worked great in the movie but it is a whole different
ballpark when it comes to a web site or an email campaign.
The only way to attract traffic on the Internet is to PROMOTE.
And the key to successful online promotion is to know HOW your
traffic found you.
Why?
Because when you know HOW your traffic found you then you will
know what is working for you so that you can not only maintain
it, but also increase it.
With an email campaign, it is absolutely essential to code your
mailings in order to discover which one is bringing you results.
The easiest way to do that is by the use of Auto-Responders.
There are a host of FREE Auto-Responder services that will allow
you to acquire as many FREE responders as you need.
For a “List of FREE Auto-Responder Services”, send a blank email
to our Auto-Responder at: mailto:freeautoresp@emailexchange.org
For example, you are promoting an ad service that pays you 50%
commission. You run one ad in a newsletter, another is done via
your signature in posting to a business list and still another
ad is exposed via FFA Link submissions.
You can code your ads simply by calling them ad001, ad002, ad003.
When you receive a reply to ad001, you will know it came from
the newsletter, ad002 will be a response to your signature and
ad003 will be from your FFA Link submission.
Use whatever code is appropriate for you but the important thing
to remember to code it and know to what it pertains.
If you have your own web site, your hosting provider might
already provide you with the tools you need to track your
traffic.
All you would need to do is access your log info and review
which web pages are getting the traffic and study where the
traffic is coming from to visit you.
If you do not have access to such info from you host provider,
there are many good FREE online stat services you can use.
Here are just a few:
HitBox http://www.hitbox.com/
What does HitBox report? · Traffic - Hourly, daily, monthly and
annual statistics for page views and unique visitors · Referrers
- Learn what sites link to you and how much traffic they send,
the search engines and keywords users search to find your site,
and total traffic from bookmarks · User paths - See how users
navigate through your site · User profiles - Find out the
browsers, operating systems and screen settings that your
audience uses and their language, country and domain. · 100s of
statistics
Extreme Tracking http://www.extreme-dm.com racking/
With the eXTReMe Tracker you get every advanced feature required
to picture the visitors of your website. Conveniently arranged,
numbers, percentages, stats, totals and averages. All the way up
from simple counting your visitors until tracking the keywords
they use to find you.
NedStat http://www.nedstat.com/
Nedstat Basic provides you with accurate answers to all the
important questions about your visitors, like which part of the
world or countries that they are from, on which days and at what
times they hit your site and if you’re reaching a greater
audience.
You may find that much of your traffic is coming to you from a
search engine or directory like Yahoo, http://www.yahoo.com/ or
Google, http://www.google.com/.
You may also be pleasantly surprised to discover that a web site
with related traffic has linked your site and is now sending you
new visitors daily.
It would be a good idea to contact the owner of that new traffic
generator and let them know you appreciate the link and even
offer to link back to them in return.
Once you know where your traffic is coming from to find you, it
is important to maintain that flow of traffic and then try to
find other sources that are similar.
Doing so will allow you to increase the visitors and leads you
generate and hopefully, increase your overall sales.

Link popularity has recently become an important aspect to
consider when promoting a website. Many search engines have
started to use link popularity to help determine ranking in
their listings. Gaining links from other sites is also very
beneficial because you gain added traffic when users follow the
link from another site to your site.
What Is Link Popularity? Link popularity is basically the number
and quality of links that point towards your site. A link from a
very important site is worth more than a link from a smaller
site. The search engine companies think that an important site
would only link to your site if your site was important, and it
makes sense too. Try getting the main page of Yahoo! to link to
you and you’ll fail, but if you did get a link, then your site
must be worth something. You couldn’t even get a link to your
site from a medium size site unless your site was important
enough and had something to offer. Both of which are important
aspects in determining relevancy - a search engines main goal.
The number of links is also important for the same reason. Your
site must be important if many sites link to you. Search engines
know these things, and that is the basis for link popularity.
Linking Strategy Rules
The most basic way of gather and exchanging links is to simply
visit websites and email the webmaster asking for a link
exchange. However, there are a few rules to keep in mind.
1. Related, Not Competitive - You should try to focus your
linking strategy on sites related to yours, but not in direct
competition. For example, a search engine submission company
site wouldn’t want to link with a competitor. They would be
better off linking with a website that teaches various ways of
promotion. The object is not to lose business to competitors,
but to gain business from similar sites.
2. Offer A Link - Most sites won’t just give out a link for
nothing in return. Have a link to their site setup and then
email them asking for an exchange. Even go as far as to give
them the URL of where their link is located. This basically just
makes the offer more serious because you already have a link
setup.
3. Be Selective - You shouldn’t just fire off an email to every
website you find asking for a link exchange. Be selective based
on the importance of your site. If you have a large site that
has been around a while, you can be more selective with your
linking. You just want to be sure that you aren’t wasting your
time with sites that will benefit greatly from your link, but
won’t do much for you at all.
4. Mini Yahoo! - When I created my links page, I had in my mind
a picture of a small directory. Yahoo uses actual people to
decide where and if a site gets added. Although my link page is
obviously much smaller than Yahoo, I try to keep the same idea.
I set up a page with different categories that relate to my
site. This makes your links page professional and also offers
another free service for my visitors to use. They can use my
links page as a targeted directory where they can easily find
specific, relevant information.
Best of luck to you,

World Wide Web searches are of two kinds: web directories and
search engines. Web directories are extensive catalogues of web
addresses that are indexed by subject and relevance. Experts
review the sites, categorize them, and organize the information.
Searches can be made by category or keywords. And, vast numbers
of websites can be sorted through to locate what is required.
Sites are included either by submission by the owner or by the
directory’s editors when they come across sites.
Web directories are mainly of two kinds:
* General directories that are automated indexes of pages not
vetted by any reviewer or editor. They are a compilation of web
sites and internet documents classified under different
categories or subject indexes. Each listing carries a brief
summary of the content contained within. Examples of popular
general directories are: Google, and Excite.
* Selected directories contain web sites and pages that have
been vetted. These are of a certain quality and standard. These
directories also provide links to other sites and documents
pertaining to a particular subject or theme. They lead you to
links that provide authoritative material written by experts in
each field. Examples are: Librarians Index to the Internet,
About.com, Virtual Library, and more.
Internet browsers can type queries into the directory and the
directory will look for matches. Alternately, a searcher can
view the indexed categories of the directory. Major categories
would include: education, computers, business, sports, family,
entertainment, arts, and so on. Within each category are
subcategories that pertain to different aspects of the main
category.
Links in directories are free, paid, or free but need a
reciprocal link. Links are provided on pages with similar or
relevant content. Most beneficial are high traffic directories
that have numerous web sites listed under each category and sub
category.
Characteristics of a quality directory are: numerous quality web
sites are present in each category; there are editors who vet
sites submitted; large number of pages in MSN, Google, as well
as Yahoo; has a low Alexa rating; has a page ranker on pages;
and pages are present in DMOZ and Yahoo directories.
The Alexa rating is calculated by the number of visitors to the
site. While PageRank is a rating system of 1-10 for web pages
devised by Google.
Submitting a web site to a directory will: increase click
through traffic; have the site indexed by search engines; get
higher rankings for targeted keywords; and get the site indexed
by spiders.
Advantages of directories are:
* Substantial staying power. * Marketing avenues. * Exponential
growth and popularity.
To be accepted by a directory one must ensure that your site:
* Content is comprehensive, unique, and plenty. Be sure to add
new content regularly. * Is stable at all times and quick to
load. There should be no broken links. * Works with multiple
browsers as also with the most recent versions. Test your site
accessibility with different browsers. * Is placed in the most
appropriate or applicable category. Be sure it is distinct from
other competitors. It should add value to the directory. *
Submission details comply with directory guidelines.
Choose a search engine friendly directory rather than one with
outlinks.
Directories must be selected with care. Due consideration must
be given to one-time as well as recurring costs. The pros and
cons of being a part of a directory should be studied before any
steps are taken. Understand completely the world of web
directories and their uses.

Traffic, is one of the magic words on the internet! The number
or volume of visitors to your online business website is what
ultimately dictates the success or failure of your home based
business or online venture.
You can have the best looking website on the internet, offering
the most incredible product to your potential customers, but if
no one comes to visit then all your design efforts will have
been in vain.
Now none of us want that do we? I know I certainly don’t because
I want people to see what I have done and to buy what I have to
offer! What about you? I am sure you would like nothing more
that to have a constant flow of people to your online business
website. Here are some proven ways in increasing the volume of
users who will visit your site.
Use Overture.
Overture is a subsidiary of Yahoo that offers a powerful keyword
suggestion tool that helps you come to find the right keywords.
If you are using the right keywords on your website then they
will bring in more visitors for your site.
With Overture you type in the words that are related to your
online business products or services, and see how many searches
were made for those particular entries. The more searches there
are, the more you should consider using those keywords in your
site.
Submit your site to the many search engines on the web.
We all use search engines when we are looking for information on
the internet. Can you imagine what life on the internet would be
like without the Search Engines? Doesn’t bear thinking about
does it? So you need to harness the power of the search engines
to ensure that when people use search engines to determine their
destination they have the option of coming to your website!
Know the value of keywords.
Search engine spiders are sent to fetch the keywords embedded in
your site, so it would serve you well if your pages are
populated with the right keywords you’ve acquired from Overture.
So without turning your online business website into page after
page simply made up of your keywords you need to ensure that
your online business keywords are prevalent throughout your
website. The Search Engine Optimisation phrase to cover this is
“Keyword Density” and that is such a big subject that it will be
covered in a separate article very soon!
Provide quality content.
As I have already suggested simply populating your site with
keywords would be useless if done carelessly. Your visitors will
be looking for information, and if you don’t give them what they
are looking for then they will just leave as quickly as they
came. Remember, you want quality visitors, those who have the
highest possibility of purchasing what you have to offer. You
have to provide good, informative content for them so that
they’ll stay. Try to publish articles or special reports on your
site, where your keywords are strategically positioned in the
body of your content at a density level of at least 2% (2
mentions of the keywords per 100 words of the body).
Promote in online communities.
Get the word out to the wider world by joining forums, mailing
lists, discussion boards and similar online places where your
target audience is likely to gather. Many people start threads
asking for help. Help them by providing answers to their
questions and you will start to build your reputation within
your field of expertise. More often than not, in online forums
you are allowed to have a signature where you can put a link to
your online business website and this will certainly bring in
some visitors as well.
Create a reason to return
You need to aim at encouraging return visitors to your online
business website. You can build your own mailing list to keep in
touch with them and offer some promotions or special offers from
time to time. Alternatively you could incorporate a forum into
your website to provide for a venue for your visitors to come
together and discuss certain topics. This would simulate the
semblance of a community they could call their own, and they
would keep visiting your site to join in the discussions.
Constantly refresh and update your content.
Not only will this win the favour of search engines, but it will
also increase the possibility of attracting visitors you once
lost.
During the early stages of your online business website’s
existence, traffic may come slowly. However, do not be
discouraged into giving up. With the techniques shared in this
article, you can increase the flow of visitors in due time,
resulting in a high level of activity for your online business
venture. With a prosperous website comes a prosperous business!

It is said that search engines like to see a certain amount of
words in the body of your html page. That is true, if you don’t
have a certain amount of words in the body, then that page will
not be considered a viable page. And not just any words, making
your content relevant to your site is the key. In order to
achieve the right balance, apply some common sense and think it
through.
Sometimes it can be difficult to come up with content that might
help describe a certain aspect of your business. Looking at
other sites on the internet is always a good place to browse for
ideas. Keeping in mind that you are only browsing. You might
look at ten different sites and pull ideas from each of them.
Once you do this, you will find that your limits will be broaden
when it comes to placing the right kind of words on your web
page.
Here is a simple example of how a person might increase relevant
content on a web page. Keep the word relevant in mind. Let’s say
you have a flower shop and you sale flowers from your website.
Your site is up and running and seems to be generating some
traffic. The site contains a description of your business page,
a services offered page, a store and an order form page. What do
you think is the most important section of this site? I would
say the store is. So let’s see how we can increase content that
is relevant for that page or section of your website.
note: Just because the store might be the most important section
of the site does not mean that other parts of your site are less
important.
Currently when you go to the store you see: a picture of a
flower on the left and the name of the flower and price on the
right side of the picture. This is repeated for each flower as
you scroll down the page. As I look at this page I realize that
a lot more can be down by means of content. We will move the
name of the flower and price to the bottom of the picture, on
the right side we will have a two to three sentence paragraph
that will describe the flower in a manner that is enticing,
prompting the reader to look back at the picture to make the
purchase.
Having a short description for each item will build body content
in a short time period. Using this method which I call “Item
Identification” will also allow you to create more pages.
Indexing three pages compared to one is better when you submit
to search engines and just by adding a short description for
each item will increase your traffic after you submit your
revised pages.

If you’re relatively new to the internet marketing arena, I’d
like to save you some time and give you a big hint about
something I didn’t know when I first started. Like most newbies,
I was mostly obsessed with traffic, and I didn’t care where it
came from. I would purchase one cent pop-up traffic just to try
to show my website to anyone who may or may not be even remotely
interested! I figured any publicity was good publicity and paid
for banners are all over the internet, without ever worrying
about the source of the traffic. Suffice it to say, once I
analyzed my logs, I became very disenchanted with the results.
I came to find out that traffic is meaningless. The only metric
that mattered to my business online was conversions. I need
people to buy, so it truly doesn’t matter how many people start
out at the website, it only matters how many of them end up at
the order form. The only people who are likely to purchase from
a website are a segment of active and interested people who are
ready to spend money, and ready to spend it right now. People
who are surfing around for related information, or worse yet,
someone picked off from an un-related website just can’t do much
for your business because they barely, if ever, convert. The
more people you have like this, the higher the server load, and
nothing else. I learned that the best visitor is one who is
actively searching to buy a product or service like the one you
offer. If the customer isn’t ready to purchase, then there’s
little chance you’ll actually be paid anything.
I’m sure this revelation isn’t a shock to everyone, but for some
people, they might see a bit of themselves in the situation I’m
describing. I’ve certainly talked to enough people who were
obsessed mainly by traffic. Who doesn’t love to see their log
files explode? A huge burst of traffic is appealing to the Ego,
if nothing else. However, log files don’t pay the bills. If you
can earn $20 on 100 page views, you’ll realize quickly how
direct conversion traffic is worth more than any other kind.
Even if your website doesn’t directly sell a product, you’ll
still make the most money with very targeted traffic. Why?
Because these same consumers will be very likely to convert at
the advertiser’s end. Advertisers are willing to pay the most
for traffic that results in sales. For this reason alone, you
can expect high rates of CPM by keeping your traffic very narrow
and primarily focused on the act of buying a product or service.
The closer they are to the act of purchasing, the better. This
means the best visitor is a time-motivated person in the act of
purchasing a product or service. If you derive a large
percentage of your website’s traffic in this fashion, you’re
sitting on a gold mine.
Grouping your web pages on tightly focused topics is a great way
to ensure your traffic is qualified. The tighter the focus, the
more likely the visitor is to convert. A person searching for
“buy cheap online widgets” is very likely far into the
purchasing thought process. If the visitor lands on your website
and is pre-qualified by the landing page, the work of the
advertiser in closing the sale is almost done. At this point, a
click-through to the advertiser’s site is likely to generate a
sale. Your compensation for supplying such a pre-qualified lead
will be rich. If your entire website consists of pages
engineered in this fashion and covering a keyword category
intensely, you’re extremely likely to succeed as a web marketer.
Hopefully this bit of advice will come in handy to someone who’s
just starting out in the game. Save yourself time and target
narrow profitable niches right from the start.
