Anyone, male or female, young or old, that loves to fish would
appreciate a gift idea that honors their passion. Gifts that are
useful during a fishing trip are always welcome, but there are
also many other selection for those who love to fish.
Rods and reels are ever popular gifts for the hobby fisher.
These can be inexpensive, light-weight or heavy-duty, even deep
sea, more expensive gifts. Lake fishing requires a lighter
weight rod and reel and is therefore a less expensive selection.
However, top quality rods and reels, even light weight, can cost
as much as you want to spend.
Every fisherman, whether they love to fish in the pond down the
road or far out in the ocean, needs a cooler for cold drinks.
These can be found in sizes from ones that hold only two or
three drinks to huge ones that have wheels and a pull-out
extended handle for easy transport to the right spot.
A good filet knife in a leather scabbard makes a wonderful gift
idea for the fishing enthusiasts who eats their catch. Filet
knives have long, thin blades that are perfect for cutting
bone-free filets. The leather scabbard makes carrying the knife
easy because it slips over the belt, making the knife at hand’s
reach at all time. This knife can also be used to cut tangled
line and when rigging tackle.
Fly fishing is one hobby where the equipment can be as much fun
as the sport itself. If you need to give a gift to someone that
fly fishes, you might consider a nice selection of fancy flies.
A good book about fly fishing or how to tie flies would also be
welcomed. T-shirts featuring images of colorful flies can be
another great selection. A fishing hat to stick a few flies into
will thrill most fly fishing enthusiasts.
If deep-sea fishing in your friend or loved one’s passion, a
gift idea is a certificate for a trip on a charter boat that
will thrill them. Some charters provide food, drink, bait,
tackle, rods and reels in an all-inclusive package price; others
provide fishing gear only. Be sure to include a brochure from
the charter boat in the gift so they know the details on what to
bring. This gift allows the recipient to select the time and
date of their fishing trip. This is one gift where the
anticipation of the trip can be just as much fun as the charter
fishing trip itself.
Fish buckets, especially the aerated buckets, make gifts that
any fishing fan will love. Tackle boxes are also wonderful If
you have the gift idea of tackle or other fishing gear, a gift
certificate for an online fishing shop can be perfect for
someone to select exactly what they need in fishing gear.

Easy Way to Achieve Your Goals Cyndi Smasal
(c) 2002
What accomplishments do you take the most pride in?
My favorite feeling is accomplishment. Is there anything better than thinking, “I’m finished - mission accomplished”? Think back to the accomplishments in which you take the most pride.
What did you accomplish? How did you accomplish it? What did you do specifically to accomplish it? What strengths did you use? What steps did you follow? What did you get out of the accomplishment?
When you take time to reflect on your past accomplishments, you learn from what went right. The lessons learned will help you achieve your future goals.
Now think ahead to the goals you still have.
What do you specifically want to accomplish in the future? How will you know when you’ve accomplished it? Is this a realistic and achievable goal or is it far fetched? How does this goal relate to your lifetime goals? By when do you want to achieve this goal? What will achieving this goal do for you? What steps do you need to take to achieve it?
Here are 5 reasons to go back and write down the answers to those questions.
1) Goals that are written down are more likely to be achieved than unstated goals.
2) Knowing what you specifically want to accomplish by when, gives you the energy and motivation to start working toward the goal.
3) Acknowledging what you will get when you achieve this goal pulls you into action.
4) Stating action steps helps you plan out how you will go about achieving your goal.
5) You’ll never leave where you are until you chart a course to where you’d rather be.
Now go back and write down the answers to those questions.
The easy way to achieve your goals is to learn from your past accomplishments and write down your future goals in such a way that they help you achieve them.

Sometimes the easiest way to get children to eat healthy is to
let them have a hand in making their own snacks…and add whipped
cream on top. Here are two fruity recipes that are fun and easy
to make, and even more fun to eat.
Miniature Fruit Pizzas
1 package refrigerated sugar cookie dough 8 ounces softened
cream cheese 1 cup confectioners’ sugar Assorted fresh fruit,
cut into bite size pieces, such as bananas, kiwis, oranges,
blueberries, grapes, strawberries, pineapple, etc.
Directions: Cut sugar cookie dough into 1-inch slices and place
on ungreased cookie sheet or pizza pan. Bake as directed, or
until lightly browned around the edges. Allow the cookies to
cool.
Combine cream cheese and confectioners’ sugar; mix well. Spread
over cooled cookies. Decorate with assorted fruit. Yummy!
Strawberry Angels
1 angel food cake 6 large strawberries 1 carton whipped topping
Directions: First, cut the cake into serving-size pieces. Slice
the strawberries and layer on top of the cake. Then spoon
whipped topping on top of the strawberries. Serve and enjoy!

My Daddy Was A Oldtime Baptist Preacher
I grew up in small Baptist country churches. I remember them
being filled to overflowing as the people gathered to hear a
word from the Lord from the God-called preachers. My Daddy
preached at this small church where over 150 attended..Sunday
School and church..how we fit into that small, but adequate
building, I don’t know. Over 40 years later, the same church has
the same number attending but the buildings are 10 times as
big…hmmm..are we placing more emphasis on the buildings than
on the people? Anyway, I wrote this in my Daddy’s memory…Thank
you, Jesus, for giving me a spirit filled oldtime preacher man
for my daddy.
This story was written December 21, 1994 and appears in my book
Luke 2.10 “And the angel said unto them, Fear not: for, behold,
I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all
people.”
When we think of Christmas, we picture presents under the tree,
the Christmas play at the church, Christmas lights and the
hustle and bustle of that time of the year.
As I look back over the 42 years the good Lord has allowed me to
live, Christmas of 1966 stands forever etched in my mind. I was
14 years old, an only son with four sisters.
I really had a close relationship with my daddy, the late Rev.
A.J. Rozier, The week before Christmas, daddy and the late Rev.
Jody Thigpen performed the wedding ceremony for my oldest
sister, Shirley, and her husband, Joe.
The simple ceremony at our old home place brought a sense of joy
in the air. We eagerly anticipated the excitement of Christmas
day.
On December 22, 1966, I was helping daddy deliver furniture
(back then, country preachers didn’t receive a large enough
salary to support their families and had to work other jobs) for
Gibson McDonald furniture company. My first cousin, the late
Clyde Douberly, and I went with daddy to Hazelhurst to deliver a
refrigerator.
Afterwards, I remember daddy sitting down and saying, “Boys,
I’ve got to rest a minute.” He felt better and we drove the 50
miles back to Blackshear and mama’s good supper.
Our Christmas tree was up and the presents were wrapped. Only
two days and a night until Christmas! That night, my 40 year old
preacher daddy dropped dead of a heart attack.
I remember all the people coming, the Christmas tree and
presents being removed, and my daddy’s casket taking that spot.
On that cold, cloudy, Christmas day, we buried my daddy.
Suddenly, presents and trees didn’t mean that much. The Lord
answered daddy’s Christmas prayer-he longed to be with Jesus.
>From that Christmas on, I truly realized what the true meaning
of Christmas is. Yes, it’s a time of celebration…For unto us
this day is born a Savior…Without His birth, we would have no
hope of being reunited with our loved ones.
I will see my Daddy again. You see, almost eight years ago,
another one of daddy’s prayers was answered. I, too, am a child
of the King.
This Christmas of 1994, let us rejoice in the birth and death of
the Lord Jesus Christ. Because He lives, we can live, also.
Luke 2.11 “For unto you is born this day in the city of David a
Saviour, which is Christ the Lord.”
Footnote…Both my brother-in-law, Joe, and I are preachers.
Clyde was 26 when the Lord called him home. Clyde and my Daddy
were both born on August the 18..both died on December 22, and
both were buried on Christmas day (10 years apart)

It’s difficult to admit now that I sit here and think about it,
I had not thought about her in years. Now she is just a bit of
memory brought forward by a chance remark in a conversation.
However, she was able to step out of that bit of memory that was
hers, as if she was still sitting in the sunroom waiting for me.
It had been my routine to spend a month in the summer with my
grandmother so she could make my wardrobe for the next school
year. Next door lived Mrs. Moses. She though widowed years
before but as many of her generation she endured that loss with
the hallmark intrepidity that kept them going. She was well into
her eighties, however, she kept a little vegetable garden, along
with a few flowers; she still cooked and cleaned her home. My
grandmother, being the junior of the two, looked in on her and
together they would go “up the hill” for ice cream and gossip.
Together they would sit on the porch every evening and watch the
business of the day pass, as well as comment on the state of
young ladies, their lack of decorum.
“Susie, don’t you think you should put on some clothes?”
“I’m fine, Grandma, really.” Eyes roll up.
“There, that right there, Amy, is why the world is going to
Hades in a three handled basket.” Mrs. Moses and Grandma would
both release long tortured sighs. “I just don’t know, Amy, we
would never have rolled our eyes at our elders like that. Never.”
“And if we did, Millie, it would have been the woodshed.” I
never won one of these exchanges so I would cut my loses as
painlessly as possible.
“I’m sorry, Grandma and Miss Millie, I didn’t mean any
disrespect,” kissing them both, apologizing once more, and
removing my halter-topped, cut-off shorted self before they
could throw a quilt over me.
These were our summers for a number of years, summers and
holidays. Until the fall I came to live with my grandmother to
attend college. It was that year Mrs. Moses’ children decided
she would be better off in a nursing home. This, of course, was
for her own good because she would be well taken care of. I
could understand, I guess, if she had slipped into dementia
often categorized by advanced years or if she was physically
impaired but she was as vital and vigorous as ever. My
grandmother was furious! She called mother and my uncle making
them take what just fell short of a blood oath that they would
never cart her off to some home and dump her. After she finished
with them, she turned her attentions to me deeming me the only
grandchild possessing common sense.
“Susie, if you allow anyone to do this to me I promise that I
will come back to haunt you and every generation that issues
from you.”
“Yes, ma’am, I would never do that, Grandma, never!” I said with
all the love (ok, fear, the woman could probably make good the
threat) possible.
The added affront was the fact that they did not put her in a
facility close to any of the children nor her hometown. After
the first Christmas, they never visited again.
I made it a habit, albeit a happy one, to stop in and visit Mrs.
Moses at least three times a week, depending on my work and
social schedules. It was some time in the spring that I noticed
the change, so subtle. First, she began to call me “Sissy.”
Susie, Sissy, it’s Texas, they’re the same. However, as the
earth swung into summer she began to talk to me about people I
didn’t know, of whom I’d never heard. It wasn’t until the
midsummer that I realized that she had fallen back in time. I
was her older sister; together we relived her teenage years.
It was like walking into “The Twilight Zone.” She was physically
as healthy as always, age had made her a bit frail, but she was
capable of performing every activity. The only difference was
her surroundings were not the 20th century nursing home but 19th
century Evans. We talked of cotillions, “at homes,” debutante
balls, socials, and boys (some things never change). We walked
together as she relived the death of a younger brother to
scarlet fever, of baptisms in the river, of marriages, and
births. Many times I would giggled, as she admitted purposely
showing an ankle or putting rouge on her lips and how old
fashioned “our” parents were.
Probably the sweetest occurred on my wedding day. She was unable
to attend the ceremony. After the official reception was
completed we brought the left over cakes, punch, and most of the
wedding party to the retirement home. She was the belle of the
ball at her “Sissy’s” wedding. We danced, we sang, we laughed
and at the end she managed to catch the bouquet.
She lived in this world for seven more years before she went to
join those she loved. I remember at her funeral someone
mentioned how tragic her last days were because all she had was
faded memories. I smiled because I knew they weren’t faded
memories, but favored memories.
