What is Acne?

The official scientific word for Acne is Acne Vulgaris. Sounds pretty, doesn’t it? Acne vulgaris is a skin condition common in adolescents that creates red bumps and spots on the face, neck, chest, shoulders and/or back. To most people, acne is called pimples or zits, but few truly understand the cause of the disease. Even scientists are still trying to figure out what causes a pore to clog.

There are a few different manifestations of acne with slightly different causes. Everyone has hair follicles with a sebaceous gland beneath the skin. Usually, oil simply drains to the surface of the skin and evaporates, but sometimes bacteria will catch the oil and keep it inside the follicle. This is what some refer to as a “clogged pore”. Acne can be non-inflammatory blackheads and whiteheads or inflammatory papules and pustules. The papules and pustules are what people usually call “zits” because they are more red and noticeable on the face. As mentioned above, acne is most common in adolescents and when it’s severe it can result in decreased self-esteem and even depression and thoughts of suicide. Fortunately for most people, acne significantly decreases as they age and is usually gone by the time they reach their mid-twenties.

Ten Reasons Why It’s Best to Accept How You Feel During Change*

Gepost door admin op 29/04/2008
Toegevoegd onder: Info

Change is challenging. It impacts on people and they resist. But
sometimes they resist experiencing the feelings that accompany
change. Yet accepting and appreciating how you feel in changing
situations can help. Here’s how…

How you feel is OK. Whoever is going through any change
experience would feel the way you do, whether it is angry, sad,
frustrated etc. - all the emotions are acceptable and
understandable. It is OK in the moment to feel the way you do.

Change creates big shifts in emotions. Big shifts. Acknowledging
these shifts is a valuable part of the experience, because it
will enrich you over time and you will come through more
strongly for your new future.

These ten reasons go some way to show why it’s OK to feel how
you feel:-

1) It Broadens You

By going with a whole range of feelings and emotions, you become
a broader person - one with many more experiences. This can be
challenging as you go through it, but it will give you talents
and skills that will be useful later.

2) You Get Stronger

Passing through the more challenging feelings is tough, but as
you get through them, you become more capable of handling not
just those bad days, but also skilled at developing strategies
to cope.

3) It Authenticates You as a Person

Acknowledging the feelings you have and accepting them as OK are
very validating for who you are. Much the opposite of holding in
and trying to ignore what you are feeling.

4) It Shows Others It’s OK too

As you show your feelings, others recognise them and know that
it is OK to feel that way too. In a work experience or life in
general, big changes come to more than one person often. Groups
feel the same way - by sharing your personal experience, you
will encourage others to as well.

5) Offers of Help Come

If you show that you are OK with the feelings you have and
express this outwardly, others will show up to help you; to
listen; to support and to co-create solutions and positive
outcomes. Just discussing how you are feeling with others is a
marvellous healer, Accepting help from others is a magical way
to build relationships too.

6) You Let it Out

Letting out how you feel delivers relief. The act of shouting it
(really!) helps. You will find solace in expressing yourself
from the rooftops and remember that it’s OK to be like this!
It’s part of feeling the real feelings, which helps you feel
heard.

7) You are Learning

As you understand your own emotions, you are learning about your
own capacity to cope and manage. This is a valuable resource to
acknowledge. The learning you get from one challenging
experience will enable you to generate a personal stategy for
yourself (and others) for the future.

8) As You Change You Open to Options

Once you go down the dismal hump of disappointment and
appreciate why you are going down and down, you start to realise
that you have within you the choice of new possibilities. You
can start to see that you have the power to choose how you feel
and that changing environments have no right to make you feel
badly if you choose not to. So you see the potential for the
future.

9) Accepting is Easier

And hey, if you get used to the idea that whatever you cannot
personally control is going to happen anyway, acceptance becomes
much more bearable. Accept that you can control only 100% of how
you feel and 0% of what others are in control of and you are
getting there. The earlier in a change cycle you choose to do
this the easier it will become for you.

10) You Can Help Others

And what a powerful support you can become., Realising that
feeling how you feel is OK and there is a light at the end of
every tunnel, is such a support to others. Your experience and
the value you derived from it can be such a resource to others,
who may be less enlightened. So share.

Feeling OK whenever change is imposed on you can, to the
uninitiated, be very challenging and that in itself is OK - you
can’t be expected to be perfect at stuff - this is real life!

But grasping change and deciding your own feelings is so much
more powerful - and will uplift you, and your future,
positively.

The Purpose of a Resume: To Win an Interview

Gepost door admin op 11/04/2008
Toegevoegd onder: Info

Your resume must be better than anything your competitors have to offer if you are going to get an interview. A well-written resume generates phone calls. Those phone calls are from prospective employers who want to interview you for a job. If you are not getting phone calls and you are sending out resumes, then you need to take a closer look at your resume.

Any resume can list employment dates and job position titles, but only the best resumes speak the language employers want to hear.

THE LANGUANGE OF RESULTS

If you just list the job duties you performed and hope the prospective employer makes the leap that you are a good employee, you are probably going to be in for a big surprise. You see, they don’t have time to read your job responsibilities and then ponder how you managed to accomplish all that you did. Hiring managers simply do not have that kind of time. They are scanning a resume for the words that show results.

MAKE IT EASY FOR EMPLOYERS.

You have to show them that you are a cut above the rest of the crowd by providing concrete examples of your successes. Do the thinking for the employer and give them what they are looking for.

First, use action-oriented keywords that reflect your ability to solve problems, take initiative, are performance-driven and goal-based.

Second, quantify your statements with numbers that define your desire to affect the bottom line. Give examples of how you saved the company money or time (relates to money) or how you earned money for the company. Numbers have meaning and are easy to latch on to. Employers love to read quantifiable statements (that are truthful) as it paints a picture that SHOWS what you accomplished rather than the dubious joy of your words telling them what you did.

Resumes can work FOR you or they can work AGAINST you. When you list the information employers want to see, then you will have a great deal of success. You will be one of the ones to get a coveted phone call for an interview. If you don’t take the time to prepare a resume in a way that grabs a hiring manager’s attention, it is actually working against you.

Take the time to write an excellent resume. It may take a little longer to think of the right words to use, but in the end, when you are enjoying the benefits of an excellent career, you will be SO GLAD you did.

Best of Luck!

How to Handle Stress by Managing your Levels?

Gepost door admin op 18/03/2008
Toegevoegd onder: Info

Stress is a natural and unavoidable feature of modern life. When
the pressures of life become too much and we can’t cope, stress
operates like a screw gradually turning tighter and tighter.
Often we don’t realise that we are under stress - until the
pressure becomes too much and the lid starts lifting… then we
crack. Humans are vulnerable and live under an optimum level of
stress every day - they often don’t know how to cope, when the
pressure builds up too much…but what can we do about it to
make our lives easier?

HOW TO COPE WITH STRESS?

Listen to your own alarm system. There are abundant challenges,
demands and opportunities in modern living; but these often
cause frustration and exasperation. Your first step is to be
aware that you are under stress. Make a list of all of all the
major stress areas in your everyday life. (My what a big list!).
Then armed with this knowledge, make an honest commitment to
changes in your life. By identifying the causes and being open
to change, you can at least hope for improvement.

FIND THE CAUSE. CALL IT BY NAME, THEN YOU CAN ELIMINATE IT. The
key, I believe, is ACCEPTANCE.

People suffering from severe stress should seek help from a
doctor or therapist. Therapists help the patient to feel
differently about things. In other words, they get them to have
a different perspective. Persons suffering from stress might do
small tasks to give them a feeling of accomplishment before
returning to the work-force. All these techniques can make
people grow; just like plants don’t grow, unless they are
watered and cared for.

WHAT CAN I DO ABOUT STRESS?

Look at your life and try to find the main cause(es) of your
stress. What external event or situation is causing the problem?
Or is it just your perception? Is it physical, emotional or
professional? Self knowledge means self help; so that once you
can identify the cause of your distress, you can eliminate it.
Remember that for you to be happy, all three areas of your life
(ie. emotional, spiritual and intellectual) need to be
satisfied. You need BALANCE in your life. The first step is
ACCEPTANCE: admit that you are under stress and not coping with
life, as well as you should. Once you accept this, the next step
is committing yourself to take ACTION to relieve the problem.
Making that decision to take action is probably the hardest for
you. It is best to use a combination of strategies to combat
moderate stress (the result of daily wear and tear on the body).

Possible action plans are as follows:

1. EXERCISE regularly. A healthy, flexible body makes for a
healthy, alert mind. Being physically active stimulates energy
levels in the brain (through the chemical serotonin, or
something like that) and allows an outlet for your frustrations.

2. Keep BUSY; this takes your mind off the problem. It is the
best antidote to deal with the problem, instead of worrying
about it.

3. Take time for yourself to RELAX, MEDITATE and VISUALISE.
Don’t let trivial problems build up and get the better of you. A
quiet body is more prone to recovery and health than an angry
one.

4. Keep a positive mental attitude (P.M.A), that you will
overcome your stress. Your attitude will determine your thoughts
and how well you cope with life: “As I think I am.” Your
attitude beats facts every time. Haven’t I said that phrase
before?

5. Watch your DIET carefully. Eat plenty of healthy foods:
fruit, fresh ‘veggies’ and vitamins (especially B and C). Cut
down on stimulants, like caffeine and nicotine; both these are
drugs that build up your resistance. Also cut down on sugar,
fats and your salt intake.

6. COMMUNICATE with a person close to you. Open your heart to
those nearest and dearest to you. Don’t suffer in silence. John
Donne said “No man is an island unto himself.” (And a few women
too!). Set aside specific times to communicate and talk
honestly. Share your thoughts, worries, feelings, dreams,
disappointments and problems… and doesn’t life have enough of
them!

7. Let go of your EMOTIONS. Cry if you want to. It’s natural and
wil lhelp the healing process. This applies to “macho” men also,
who are socialised to keep their emotions inside.

8. Pray to God for the answers to your stress problem, if you
are religious, or “a spiritual” person . You WILL get the
answers via your subconscious mind, your intuition - our
connecting link with our Creator, a Supreme Being, Spirit,
Higher Self (or whatever you understand God to be).

Finally, 9. Keep your sense of HUMOUR and be HAPPY.

To Whom Should You Send Your Cover Letter and Resume

Gepost door admin op 16/03/2008

Are you ready to compose your cover letter? Did you get the name and address of the hiring manager conducting the interviews? What? You just got the company address and you were planning to send it to To Whom It May Concern in the human resources department? (Why on earth would somebody give their child such a name?) Oh, I see, you figure if To Whom It May Concern in the human resources department was the one to craft the job posting and advertise the position, she will have all the information about the job and just forward everything to the hiring manager as it comes in.

Ok, so you are going to address it to To Whom It May Concern in the human resources department. Do you plan to present any of the benefits of hiring you on a more personal level? Oh, I see, you can’t do that because To Whom It May Concern could be anybody so it’s a little more difficult to get personal. (Thank goodness because I was feeling sorry for that child.) You’ll just let whoever opens your letter know you have seen the job opening on the internet so you have enclosed your resume and are looking forward to hearing from somebody soon.

Well, forgive me for bursting your bubble, but there is a darn good possibility you aren’t going to hear from To Whom It May Concern or anybody else anytime soon. Let’s take a look at this and see what we can do to your cover letter to personalize it and speak directly to the reader. Sending it to To Whom It May Concern will not do much to increase your odds of getting an interview with a real live person that has the power to hire you.

You will have to put forth some real effort to find out just exactly who will be doing the interviewing and making the final hiring decision. Your cover letter should be addressed specifically to this person with your resume enclosed. Do not staple or paperclip your resume to the cover letter. Make it quick and easy to handle.

Be direct and don’t try to impress them with your vocabulary. Your resume is full of industry buzz words that show your expertise. Write as though you are speaking to them face-to-face. Addressing your cover letter to the hiring manager and writing in a direct manner will introduce you to them on a more personal level and establish a friendly rapport.

Begin your letter by letting the reader know where and how you heard about the position. Move on to reveal what you have gleaned from your research about their company and the role the job plays in the overall scheme of their goals. By doing so, you will show the hiring manager the depth of your interest and your knowledge of the company. You want to keep as much of the focus on them as possible. Your resume will focus on you after you have addressed their needs in the cover letter.

Your resume will take care of painting a portrait in their mind of you and your career. It showcases how much you contributed to reaching the goals of your former employers. At this point your cover letter needs to let the hiring manager know how you can apply your talents and skills to benefit their company and the results you believe you can achieve. Make sure you are confident about what you can achieve and don’t be afraid to let that confidence show.

After you have specifically addressed their challenges is a good time to point out the relevance of your past accomplishments to the needs of their company. This will pique their interest in your resume and reinforce the benefit of having you on their team. Don’t forget that you are a team player, but also a solo performer whenever necessary.

Last, but certainly not least, close by letting them know you will be following up with a phone call and you look forward to speaking with them. Don’t be passive and sit around waiting for the phone to ring. You are on the hunt for a job and need to keep the ball rolling. You will display your initiative and keep the door to an interview open by doing so. Oh, one more thing…it’s not a good idea to sign your letter From Whom It Does Concern either.

The End of the World,

http://www.dokesnflow.com For those of you that haven’t noticed
the end of human civilization is near. What most people don’t
understand that the cause of this is religion and America’s
conquest for world domination. Sure Bush claims that his mission
is to destroy every terrorist to secure America’s freedom and
way of life. What he is not mentioning is how America’s markets
have been in trouble ever since the dot.com boom followed by
corporate scandals. The government thought if the Federal
Reserve lowered interest rates again and again the market would
gain momentum and recover. They were wrong! This is all part of
the scheme of events that will lead to the demise of human
beings. Being an American I can not complain about this because
I have been enjoying the fruits of America’s long going success
and freedom of free enterprise my whole life. However all
empires will fall eventually. The Romans, Egyptians, and now the
United States is next. What Bush plans to do is to walk into
Iraq bomb the shit out of them overthrow Saddam and take over
their oil reserves which would pull our market out of recession
and then some. Every war has been linked to the different
country’s religious beliefs. Everybody wants to put out their
own explanation of “How the Universe was created” which is why
people follow religions to make themselves feel a since of peace
of their existence. The truth is no one really knows how we got
here. This great mystery is what will lead to our extinction. I
bet Muhammad (founder of Islam) would be turning in his grave
right now if he saw what a few power fanatics have twisted his
religion into a fine tuning terrorist machine. The “Axis of
Evils” is now forming in the Middle East which is growing
everyday. The Islam religion has over a billion followers and if
Osama’s plan of turning every Muslim against the US and it’s
supporters we can expect WW3. Once Iraq uses chemical,
biological, or nuclear weapons on our troops the US said they
will use nuclear weapons in retaliation. After this happens
Nuclear War will begin. Anyways everything going on right now
are events that will lead up to “D-day”. There are few elite
wealthy nations around the world control everything we see and
perceive in the media. These leaders from all over the world
headed by the one and only USA will soon form the New World
Order. The N.W.O will attempt to form their own currency which
all nations will have to oblige to in order to survive
financially. Markets all over the world will shut down around
2010 and 2013 will be “D-Day” when the supreme being we know as
God will come to earth and wipe everything out accept those who
have “faith”. I know this seems very far fetched but it’s my
outlook on the future of the world.

On that note I think everybody should live it up as much as
possible like today is your last. Guy’s if there is some shorty
you have been wanting to holla at but have been to puss to do
anything about it, do it. The worst thing that could happen is
rejection. Who cares about pride anyways? If you have a business
idea but have been too scared that it might not work, try it.
You have to take risk to build any business. If you have been
waiting for the right person to have sex with, wait no more bang
as much as humanly possible because you will regret it in the
end. All you people out there stressing about school and being
successful stop that shit. American culture has to high of
expectations for us to be successful. I am happiest when I just
finished having sex for hours and I’m covered in sweat from head
to toe. When I look over and see the girl is in a state of
sexual bliss from experiencing multiple orgasms and I can barely
move this is what I consider success. http://www.dokesnflow.com

Ten Tips on Delegating Work

Gepost door admin op 11/01/2008
Toegevoegd onder: Info

One way to manage your time more effectively is to delegate work to others on your staff or to contract workers you hire for specific projects. How often I hear such comments as, “It takes too much time to delegate.” “If I delegate the work there is no guarantee that the work will be done properly. It is just easier to do it myself.” “No one can do this as well as I can.” If others who have a lower hourly rate can do the work while you focus on the work only you can do, your cash flow will be better because you can do more of the work that only you can do.

1. Be specific about what you want done. Be clear as to the purpose of the delegated work and what kind of results you expect. Take the time to answer the person’s questions. This takes less time than redoing work.

2. Set a realistic deadline for the delegated work and make sure that this is workable for the person to whom you are delegating the work.

3. Give the person the information he/she will need and point them toward other resources he/she may use to complete the work

4. Be available for questions and require periodic progress reports.

5. If you are delegating because you have so much to do that you do not have time to give explicit instructions, be sure to delegate to a member of your team or a contract worker who can do the work with a minimum of direction. Perhaps they have done this job before or they have had experience with similar projects.

6. Once you delegate to someone who is well equipped to handle the task, allow the person space to be imaginative in his/her approach and to take the initiative to do something differently or do it in a bigger way (as long as you get the results you are looking for!).

7. If you want to use the delegation of the task (problem) as a way to develop a member of your staff or a contract worker, leave time in your schedule to provide enough detail as to how to go about getting the task done as is necessary for that particular person. (Developing a team member means eventually you will not have to give as much direction.)

8. Have a system to report back to you so that you get feedback without being constantly interrupted during your day. Have a list of critical dates so that you get the feedback regularly.

9. Keep a log of all the projects you delegate and their status. Update the log as you get feedback.

10. Give credit and praise for the successful completion of the task or solution of the problem.

Top 10 Ways to Use Quotations to Be Healthier, Happier and More Productive!

Gepost door admin op 03/01/2008
Toegevoegd onder: Info

Most people have at least one favorite quotation from a famous or not-so-famous person. Some people collect them like baseball cards, figurines or classic cars. You can find hundreds of websites featuring quotations, thousands of sites with a favorite quotes page, and many collections in any bookstore you walk into. All of this proves that quotations are popular. What may be less evident to you is exactly how you can use them to improve you life and your results.

Below is a list of eleven ways you can do just that!

Use when journaling. My Grandmother kept a diary, and so does my mother. Fewer people call them diaries now, and more call them journals. It really doesn’t matter what you call them. If you spend time writing each day, you can use a quotation to relate to your activities for the day, record what you have been thinking about, or to help you with your writing in general.

Share at work. You can use quotations whether you are the boss or anyone on the team. Post a new quote on your door, on the bulletin board in the coffee room, or send out in an email. If you pick quotes that are relevant to the work of the group and are positive in nature, you won’t believe what an impact they can have - and how much people will miss them if you don’t keep posting new ones!

Share with clients. Use quotations as a way of keeping in touch with clients. When you read a great quotation that you think a client would enjoy, send it off to them with a quick note. This is both thoughtful and thought provoking (and keeps you in the mind of the client too).

Share with yourself. When you find a particularly powerful quotation with specific meaning to you, put it where you can see it! Put a copy on your mirror, on the side of your computer monitor, on your refrigerator or anywhere else you will see it and read it often. Instead of turning on the radio, think about a quotation you’ve recently read and how it applies to you.

Use in your email. I know I mentioned email in the last tip, but here I am talking about putting a quotation in your signature line. Most all email programs allow you to create a standard message at the bottom of every email that includes your name, contact information and anything else you would like to include. Consider using a quotation that is thought provoking, funny, or that expresses a personal belief or value. This way without any extra effort you can be giving others the opportunity to think about your quotation, and differentiating yourself from the crowd at the same time.

Use in speeches and presentations. Many people give speeches, talks, training, or presentations of some kind. Using a wise quotation from someone else can add credibility to your message, help you persuade others (after all that is what Ben Franklin or Winston Churchill or Gandhi said, not you!), and show that you are well prepared. Beyond these benefits, the right quotation can help you build your talk more effectively, by giving you a focus to build from.

Use in writing. We’ve talked about journals, which are for ourselves. But many people write for others to read. Whether an article in the church newsletter, a letter to the editor, or your Great American novel, quotations can help you get your point across more clearly and beautifully. Quotations can also be helpful with “writers block,” giving you great spurs to help you get your ideas flowing.

Use when you meditate. Perhaps you meditate, pray or spend quiet time reflecting on your day. If you do, you may read something as a part of that activity. Quotations can be used as a seed for your thoughts or “mental conversation” during this time. Other people would like to be more proactive in building this habit. Quotations can be even more valuable to the “newcomer” as it helps give them mental food for their reflection.

Commit them to memory. You can use quotations as a way to exercise your brain! Pick a quotation you love and commit it to memory. Then, you will be able to use it whenever you want - for yourself or while in conversation with others.

Use as an attitude adjustment. Having powerful, positive, proactive thoughts around can be a great way to adjust your attitude at anytime!

So, the next time you read a great quotation, do more than just think it is it very good — decide to use one of the ten ideas above to help the wisdom of the quotation benefit you and those around you.
