A review of the Princes of Amber series written by Roger Zelazny.

If you have never read anything by Roger Zelazny, you are in for a treat. Zelazny’s Amber Chronicles consist of ten books revolving around the Princes of Amber and their struggle against one another for the throne and against the forces of evil for the survival of Amber.

This fantasy is based on the premise that Earth is only one of many alternate realities to the real world of Amber. Zelazny successfully takes the reader back and forth from Earth the the alternate dominions with skill and magnificent detail without the overpowering technical aspects of scientific explanations some sci-fi/fantasies feel necessary.

The story is told through the adventures of Corwin–one of the nine princes vying for the throne. The reader learns the history of Amber and the royal family as Corwin recovers with a bout of amnesia. Where Corwin’s tale ends, his son’s begins.

This series of ten books is suitable for all ages. The style is simple yet imaginative and the plot grows more consuming with each page. The characters are flawed but likeable as is the illustrious world of Amber. The action moves steadily forward without becoming overwhelming. I read the first book from cover to cover before I was even aware of it.

The Amber Chronicles are not new releases. They were published over a period of more than twenty years. I recommend purchasing the paperback The Great Book of Amber as published by Avon Books for your first reading experience as you can pick up all ten books in one volume at a good price.

I do not find all of Zelazny’s works as entertaining as the Amber books, in fact, I have read two that I totally despised so do not assume if you like this recommendation that you will like everything he writes. I do have one more recommendation to make.

A Night in Lonesome October is a supernatural fantasy told through the eyes of Snuff, the pet of one of the supernatural beings who have gathered for a Halloween ritual. He takes you through his life as a dog dealing with the pets of the other supernatural beings like the vampire, the witch and the evil vicar.

You may have trouble locating a copy of this one, but it is well worth the hunt.

A home equity credit line is a kind of loan which is secured against a property as collateral. It is a type of revolving loan which allows the borrower to loan funds at the time and in the amount the borrower chooses, up to a maximum credit limit for which the borrower has been qualified. A home equity line of credit can be used as a borrower needs it up to the available credit line. Any portion of the loan can be used any time. The minimum payment due each month is interest only. Interests can be of the fixed or varied type. But it typically involves the variable type.

Home equity lenders can loan borrowers up to 85% of the appraised value of the mortgaged property in this type of loan. But if the borrower still owes a certain amount from the first mortgage, this will be deducted from the 85%.

Since the borrower’s home serves as collateral, they are wary in using this type of loan for day-to-day expenses, and instead use it for major items such as education, home improvements, or medical bills.

Obesity in children is the biggest challenge facing parents in
these early years of the twenty-first century and this article
is designed to take a long hard look at the reasons.

Over the past 30 years children, and population in general, have
been heading deeper into an obesity pattern, just as hours spent
watching television or sitting in front of a computer have risen
proportionately. In fact the graphs for obesity and
television/computer sitting rise almost in unison, so there is
little doubt that the two are linked. The challenge that faces
parents is to tempt their children away from passive activities
into action activities. A child gains more from chasing a ball
in a local park than they do from TV or the internet so the
first question you should ask of yourself is: “Am I doing enough
to ensure my child achieves the basic level of sporting
activity?” - It is parents that have created this situation by
spending too much time at work at the expense of their children
and therefore it is parents who must correct the situation.

The next thing that needs looking at is diet. A burger, pizza or
some other take-home meal is fine as a once a month treat but
not as a basic diet. There is a food pyramid indicating what we
should eat to remain healthy and we should all be doing our
utmost to follow the recommendations if we are truly interested
in maintaining a healthy and long life.

Parents that I’ve met have made a pyramid of excuses why they
can’t get their children into sport and physical activity, why
they can’t get them to eat healthy food etc. But they all have
one thing in common; they are just excuses that try to convince
them that there is no problem. The problem isn’t in the
children, it is a parental problem because when a parent states:
‘I’ve tried everything but it doesn’t work.’ They are really
saying; ‘My children call the shots and lack respect for me and
my judgment.’

Think about it for a moment.

- Isn’t it the role of a parent to give guidance to a child?

- Isn’t diet and activity guidance that will lead to a long
healthy life a worthwhile goal for a parent?

- Do you think that a child truly respects a person that
constantly gives in to them?

- If your child doesn’t learn to respect advice from people with
greater experience what chance do they have at school or work?

There is a whole list of other questions but I think the few
above are enough for now. It is not cruel to children to feed
them a healthy diet and a healthy, but fun, exercise routine. I
leave it to you to answer the alternative question: Is it kind
to make your children unhealthy because doing the right thing
takes a little effort at times? It is the healthy, well
adjusted, children who will show most love to their parents in
years to come. The secret is to make life fun and you have to be
healthy to enjoy fun.

Downloading a free resume template can seem like the solution to all your resume problems.

Not so fast! By all means, check out what free resume templates are available, but then ask yourself some questions.

Have you seen it before? If you have, you can bet the person you send it to has too. You’ve seen, what, tens or hundreds or resumes? They may have seen thousands. If yours looks like everybody else’s, you won’t stand out.

But if you have seen it, don’t immediately bypass it. Is it pretty? Great, it might be helpful to you. Can you change it to make it memorable? If you can change a template easily, you just might be able to create a great one yourself. Odds are good it’ll be in Microsoft Word format, so changing it should be easy, especially if you’re at home in Word.

Is it over the top? You want to stand out, but like a star, not like an idiot. The idiot doesn’t get the job. If the free resume template you just downloaded has a graphic of jellybeans or confetti down the side, run away. Unless you’re interviewing to be a birthday party clown.

If you use free resume templates (or creative, professional ones you purchase) well, they can save you time and effort. Then you can focus on content.

There is no secret that a domain name plays a critical role in a
company’s overall brand strategy. But what role does a domain
name play when building the most important brand you have
control over, your own personal brand? This valuable, but less
implemented, brand strategy is arguably one of the best
investments that many individuals have yet to take full

Have you heard about the big milk controversy? Outspoken spokesperson for The Vegetarian and Vegan Foundation, Heather Mills McCartney (soon to be x-wife of singer Paul McCartney) is bringing the dangers of modern milk to attention of the press.

“As Heather Mills McCartney speaks out about the health problems associated with dairy products, physicians and nutritionists with the Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine (PCRM) are urging U.K. consumers to try an experiment: Eliminate milk and other dairy products from their diet for three weeks to experience firsthand the health benefits of a dairy-free diet,” according to a PR Newswire release.

Although I don’t agree with a lot of what Heather Mills McCartney believes, I do agree with the the facts. Homogenized pasteurized milk causes many health problems. Despite the fact that the dairy industry, with their money and power, want you to think otherwise.

The problem isn’t with milk. Dairy products have been a major part of many cultures’ diets for thousands of years. Many people and races throughout history have lived almost solely on milk and dairy products, and have been extremely healthy for it. But the dairy products we have in our grocery stores now are very different than the dairy products consumed by people in the past.

The problem today is how we get our dairy products and how they are processed. Modern dairy cows are exposed to hormones, antibiotics, and pesticides, and fed a diet of high-protein soy and grain based feed instead of traditional grass feeding methods.

And then the milk they produce is homogenized, which alters the organic structure so the cream will blend into the milk. Unfortunately the new smaller fat particles don’t work well in our bodies, and can get into the blood stream. There is a very high correlation between countries that drink homogenized milk and the rise of atherosclerosis.

Pasteurizing milk is heating it until it is a dead food with little or no benefit to us. It is robbed of its enzymes and many of its vitamins. Today’s milk is know to cause allergic reactions in many individuals, because of the lack of enzymes needed to process the milk in our bodies. Enzymes are killed when they are heated to temperatures over 120 degrees F.

The modern milk produced now is something highly processed and unnatural. If that isn’t enough, when they make 1% and 2% milk, they add non-fat dried milk to these products to lower the fat percentage. Non-fat dried milk is ultra-processed, which oxidizes the cholesterol. Rancid (oxidized) cholesterol and fats are also what promote heart disease. Dried milk contains a very high nitrite content as well.

You will be hearing more and more about the dangers of modern milk. If you want safe healthy milk, try organic, raw milk from grass fed cows. Raw milk still has all its nutrients and enzymes, and many people have found it helpful for allergies, asthma problems and other health conditions.
